“La Luz de Jesus” Acquires New Gallery Director

Billy Shire announced April 2nd that Matt Kennedy has accepted the position of Gallery Director at Shire’s La Luz de Jesus Gallery in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles. This hire coincides with the opening of the Robert Pasternak and Martha Rich exhibition, which unveils April 3rd and runs through April 26th.

Kennedy was formerly the Marketing Director at Liberation Entertainment and Chief Marketing Consultant of Neu Bauhaus. He’s been an avid collector of pop-surrealism and street art for nearly twenty years, and remains a highly sought advisor for guerilla marketing.

La Luz de Jesus Gallery was established in 1986, showcasing mainly figurative, narrative paintings, and unusual sculpture. The exhibitions are considered post-pop; the art content ranges from folk to outsider to religious to sexually deviant. The gallery's main objective is to bring counter culture and underground art (including works by Manuel Ocampo, Joe Coleman and Robert Williams –long before becoming household names) to the masses.

The gallery opens a new exhibit every month, with an opening reception that Details Magazine calls "the biggest and best party in Los Angeles."
