Billy Shire Fine Arts Announces

The Departure of Annie Adjchavanich, Joy Sangalang & Simon Hurtado

Culver City, CA - May 10, 2009 --
Billy Shire Fine Arts (BSFA) announces the departure of Gallery Director Annie Adjchavanich who moved to the Los Angeles to become the Director of both of Billy Shire's galleries; Billy Shire Fine Arts and La Luz de Jesus Gallery.  After four years, Annie has overseen forty-five exhibitions and a dozen art fairs for BSFA and more than fifty exhibitions and special projects at La Luz de Jesus Gallery.  On behalf of BSFA, she served as a juror, guest lecturer, panelist and art advisor.  Additionally, she organized traveling exhibitions to Washington, DC, Rome and Chicago for the gallery. She will continue to teach the "Professional Practices" course to undergraduate students at OTIS College of Art & Design in Los Angeles. Annie departs to advise her private clients in acquiring for their art collections and will continue to work on her independent curatorial projects in the US and abroad.

Additionally, Gallery Assistant Joy Sangalang Smith departs to take a well deserved break and prepare for the birth of her first child with her husband Paul Smith. Their baby is due at the end of July.  Joy was instrumental in working with all of BSFA's artists and preparing for all aspects of forty-one exhibitions. She was with us for three and a half years.

Simon Hurtado has been working with us for the past four months as our gallery intern. In the fall, she enters her final year at Otis College of Art + Design where she is working towards her BFA in Illustration.  She began working with us after taking Annie's OTIS class.

Matt Kennedy - New Gallery Director
 
Matt Kennedy joins BSFA & La Luz de Jesus as the new Gallery Director.  Kennedy was formerly a Marketing Director at Liberation Entertainment and the Chief Marketing Consultant of Neu Bauhaus, where he was a highly sought guerilla marketing advisor. He's a longtime collector of pop-surrealism and street art, and has packaged and produced pop-culture themed media for broadcast in the US and abroad. Kennedy was a manager at the original Melrose Avenue location of La Luz de Jesus from 1991 to 1995.
