HAUNTED PARADISE, the art and paintings of Detroit artist Glenn Barr.

HAUNTED PARADISE is a 161 page journey into Barr’s world and works. The book includes reproductions of his paintings, drawings and photographs since 2001. Sketches and drawings give an inside look at the evolution of a Barr painting. Details of several paintings offer a further glance in to the artist’s work. Photos, as striking as his art, document his workspace and present a perspective of the Detroit landscape from Barr’s eyes. In-depth essays and a short interview by Carlo McCormick, J.J. Marcucci and Jerry Vile kick off this journey.

Barr is one of Detroit's most celebrated and successful underground artists.  He broke into the national scene with his first exhibition, “BENEATH THE VALLEY OF THE BRAIN” at Hollywood's La Luz de Jesus Gallery in 2001. As a teenager, Barr drew, painted, and played in a band. It was the beginning of a long-term relationship between Barr's art and music that would lead him to the design of album art for local legends The Detroit Cobras and The Witches as well as national acts such as Funkdoobiest. After studying illustration at the College for Creative Studies, Barr worked on a series of comics and graphic novels during the 1990’s including MARS on EARTH, the four-volume BROOKLYN DREAMS, and a series of Factoid "Big Books." No stranger to Los Angeles and its reputation for some of the most twisted animation in history, Barr also worked as background stylist for The REN and STIMPY SHOW, Bjork's “I Miss You” video and THE NEW WOODY WOODPECKER SHOW. A widespread appreciation for his art led him to devote full time to painting around 2000.

Juxtapoz Magazine states “HAUNTED PARADISE is a testimony of Barr’s artistic hand so cleverly interpreting the world as he sees it.” Mutaminx art blog proclaims “…influenced by pulp art and comics, Barr’s work, beautifully sampled in this collection, is the visual equivalent of a David Lynch film” Other positive reviews about “HAUNTED PARADISE” have appeared in International Tattoo Magazine, Cooh’eh Magazine, Beautiful Decay, Carbon 14 and many other publications and blogs.
